Decentralization, Democracy and Development
The Bia East District was carved out of the then Bia District in 2012 by legislative instrument (LI) 2014 and officially inaugurated on 28th June, 2012 with the administrative office at Adabokrom. The district is endowed with human and natural resource stretching from pool of labour, rich soil, and good climate, a tropical rainforest with variety of timber species, cash crop and livestock required for generating a high quality of life for the inhabitants.
Our Story
Bia East District assembly represent the political and administrative machinery of government at the district level and it is the highest policy making body of the district.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) represents the political and administrative head of the district. The central Administrative (CA) is headed by District Coordinating Director (DCD) whose office service as both the central secretariat of the assembly and the focal point for co-ordinating and harmonizing department activities in the district.
The Bia District Assembly as the highest political, administrative and planning authority consists of Eighteen (18 members including the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for the Bia East Constituency. The latter is an ex-officio member if the assembly.
VISION
To envisage a peaceful, progressive and well-developed district with high standard of living for all persons under its jurisdiction, in a conducive atmosphere, where the dreams and aspiration of its inhabitants are attained and maximized.
MISSION STATEMENT
The district exists to improve the living conditions of the people of the District by mobilizing the human and material resources in the provision of social and infrastructural facilities and services for a balanced development.
LOCATION AND SIZE
The Bia East District was carved out of the then Bia District in 2012 by Legislative Instrument (LI) 2014 and officially inaugurated on 28th June, 2012 with the administrative office at Adabokrom. The district shares boundaries with the Dormaa West District Assembly to the north, Asunafo North to the north east, La Cote d’Ivoire to the west, and Bia West District to the south west. The district capital, Adabokrom is located 420 km to the northwest of Sekondi-Takoradi (the Regional Capital) and 250km to Kumasi, the nearest commercial centre. The district has a surface area of 874.1 sq km.
LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT
The District is endowed with human and natural resources stretching from pool of labour, rich soil, good climate, a tropical rainforest with variety of timber species, cash crops and livestock required for generating a high quality of life for the inhabitants.
However, Bia East District is one of the deprived districts in the country based on development indicators such population and social infrastructure. Most of the communities in the district lack basic services like potable water, health facilities, decent housing, clean environment and quality educational facilities. The district has very poor road network and this situation impacts negatively on its marketing and service delivery.
Nevertheless, the Bia East District Assembly in collaboration with its development partners is determined to put in place a formidable accelerated development programmes to ensure living standard are improved upon.
